I’m Brad Filmer, the proud owner of Royal Green Landscapes. I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.
I was born and raised on Vancouver Island, where I enjoyed being around plants and found I had a passion for gardening. My desire for improvement and knowledge led me to the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario, where I achieved a horticulture degree in 1990, emphasizing turfgrass management.
Even before graduation, I was actively employed at the Fairwinds Golf Club in Nanoose Bay, BC, and soon became the assistant golf superintendent. I went on to the superintendent position at Pheasant Glen Golf Resort (formerly Glengarry Golf Links) and built and developed Arrowsmith Golf Course north of Qualicum Beach, BC. Since its inception in 1996, the Arrowsmith Golf Course quickly became one of the best golf courses in Vancouver Island.
Its reputation grew quickly as a superbly maintained facility. Over fifteen years, I managed the golf course consistently year-round, becoming one of the premier turf managers in the B.C. area.
In 2008, with the economic crisis lowering profits and making golf a second thought, I decided to branch out into landscaping transitioning to assist homeowners in improving and beautifying their properties.
I have now been in the landscaping business full-time since 2013 and have the reputation of being approachable and working with people to reach common goals. Over our years of operation, the company has grown consistently. However, the pandemic has lowered our visibility and cost us valuable exposure.
The part of my business that I most enjoy is working with people to design and create new affordable landscapes that suit the property and location. That way, they are equally desirable to my clients and me. Additionally, while satisfying my clients is my primary goal, I also thrive on working at my own pace, even if it includes working long hours around inclement weather and stringent timelines.
I work on determining a concept for improvements that fit the customer’s expectations and enhance the project but can be accomplished affordably.
As an individual, I believe what sets me apart from the others is the professionalism with which I accomplish each task. Similarly, I try to use the best materials and equipment available and never leave a customer unsatisfied.
Last year, I built a large artificial Putting Green and supporting Irrigation System for a client in Victoria, which they loved. This project has given me immense satisfaction and inspiration for the future.
All of the success I’ve achieved so far, I attribute to my wonderful clients who are loyal and more like friends to me. Additionally, my in-depth knowledge of my craft and the trust I inspire in clients have also enabled me to get as far as I have today.
When I am not at work, which is rare as I am the sole employee operating in a twelve-month growing season, I enjoy a game of golf on the fantastic greens.
I also believe in giving back to society and, as part of that belief, try to design landscapes that have a minimal environmental impact and blend into our already existing, incredible natural surroundings.
I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
